Shake Shack is headed to this massive downtown development

Massively popular burger chain Shake Shack has confirmed plans to open a location at Fifth + Broadway, the $430 million mixed-use development now under construction at the site of the city's former convention center.

Shake Shack's interest in the project has been reported for nearly a year, but a Thursday news release marks the official announcement of its plans. The restaurant, which opened is first Nashville location in Green Hills last month, has signed a lease for a 3,500-square-foot space in the development, according to a news release.

Developed by a team including San Diego-based OliverMcMillan, veteran Nashville developer Pat Emery and Charlotte-based Spectrum Cos., the $430 million Fifth + Broadway project will include a 34-story apartment tower, an office tower where Wall Street money-manager AllianceBernstein (NYSE: AB) is negotiating to bring 1,050 jobs and previously announced retail tenants such as H&M and a 100,000-square-foot food hall.

The National Museum of African American Music is also headed to the project.

Thursday's news release does not share a projected opening date for the downtown Shake Shack, other than to say the overall development will open by the second quarter of 2020.

“We’re pleased to welcome one of America’s most exciting eateries to one of America’s most exciting downtowns” Burgin Dossett, regional manager at OliverMcMillan, said in the release. “Shake Shack places a premium on quality ingredients and guest experience, which mirrors our own development philosophy. Shake Shack at Fifth + Broadway will be a favorite of area residents, downtown workers and Nashville visitors alike.”
