Just Be-COS: H&M's Chic Sibling Opens in Houston in Time for the Holidays
COS has landed.
The upscale, more sophisticated sister brand of fast fashion giant H&M opened atRiver Oaks District Friday, featuring a wide array of classic styles with a twist. The new 4,380-square-foot store has a minimal look, with light wood floors, white track lighting and gray metal hangars, that matches the clothing. The exterior is a muted gray, with large windows and the logo spelled out in stainless steel letters.
COS, short for Collection of Style, was launched in 2007 in London and has since expanded around the world. This is the first COS store in Texas.
The store prominently features basics in shades of black, navy and white in the men's department. The larger women's department showcases the colors of the season — mustard, forest green and shades of rust and orange. The children's department is perhaps the most whimsical, with multi-color cardigans and sweatshirts with orange squiggly lines.
Clothing is much less fashion-forward than H&M, with most styles unembellished and cut away from the body. Higher quality fabrics such as cashmere, silk jersey and mohair are used, so looks are a bit pricier than H&M, although many items are under $100. Some observers liken COS to Spanish retail giant Zara but with a bit more elevated, yet minimal look.
The store is also expected to be a nice counterpoint to the pricier designer boutiques that dominate the new mixed-use shopping complex.
