5 New Retailers, 2 Restaurants Coming Soon at Buckhead Atlanta

A flood of new retail openings at Buckhead Atlanta before the fall holiday shopping season begins is not in the cards, although there are five previously announced new retailers scheduled to open before November and certainly one, and maybe two, new restaurants.

One of the most recent openings has been the Cacao Atlanta Chocolate Company, a retailer of handmade artisan chocolates which recently opened next to Shake Shack on Peachtree Road, returning to Buckhead after being forced out of the community by a fire in December of 2013.

Cacao Atlanta Chocolate Company was founded in 2004 by Kristen Hard. Cacao has its flagship store in Virginia-Highland, a boutique in the Inman Quarter development and has a “factory store” in Underwood Hills. This is its fourth retail store.

Food and Wine recently listed Cacao as having the “Best Chocolate in the U.S.” alongside Vosges, Godiva Cake Truffles, Theo, Lindt and Mass Brothers. And, Cacao was also named one of America’s best chocolate shops by Bon Appétit, Food and Wine Magazine, and travel and Leisure.

Also recently opening was Vilebrequin, which specializes in Chic-yet-comfortable swim shorts in its first Atlanta store, an 827-square-foot location on Buckhead Avenue, and the Jimmy Choo shoe store at the corner of Buckhead Avenue and Bolling Way.

Vilebrequin’s 827-square-foot location on Buckhead Avenue is built out in the company’s newly introduced DUNE design concept, which was influenced by the brand’s extensive history in the Mediterranean area.

That brought the tally of opened retailers to 34, which is not too bad for Buckhead Atlanta having be open less than a year. Others expected to open within 30-60 days are Davidoff of Geneva (likely early August), Les Copains, Planet Blue, Akris and Courageb.

OliverMcMillan opened its Buckhead Atlanta mixed-use development to the community in September 2014.

Davidoff of Geneva since 1911 will offer premium handcrafted cigars, tobacco products and accessories in its first freestanding Atlanta store, a 3,047-square-foot shop on Bolling Way.

Les Copains will introduce its French-inspired, Italian-made luxury apparel to Buckhead Atlanta at its very first U.S. shop, a 933-square-foot store located on Bolling Way, likely this summer.

Southern California-based lifestyle and fashion brand Planet Blue will be opening its first store in the Southeast at Buckhead Atlanta. Known for weaving innovative fashion with the vibrant styles of bohemian beach culture, Planet Blue will open a 3,200 square-foot boutique on Buckhead Avenue.

“Planet Blue’s creative, colorful and casual style aligns with our distinct approach to curate an unrivaled shopping experience for our guests,” said Jeff Zeigler, senior managing director of retail services at OliverMcMillan.

Akris is an independent family owned fashion house established 90 years ago in St. Gallen, a Swiss town renowned for its longstanding tradition as the heart of the country’s textile industry. Brothers Albert and Peter Kriemler are the third generation to head up the business.

Akris is distributed worldwide. In addition to flagship boutiques in major cities throughout Europe, the United States, and Asia, Akris is available internationally in some 600 high-end department stores and fashion emporiums.

Courageb is a high fashion women’s designer clothing and accessories boutique and is anticipated to be among the upcoming openings before November.

Billy Reid offers luxurious menswear and women’s wear, and will open its 2,104-square-foot boutique on Bolling Way. The OliverMcMillan people estimate the opening around Oct. 7, but they always explain that they turn the shell over to the retailer’s store designers to complete the build-out work and OM has no control over that.

The opening date for Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery, which sells top-of-the-line fixtures for the well-appointed home, has apparently been pushed back to early to mid-December for its 13,183-square-foot showroom on Bolling Way.

Two major new restaurant offerings are expected to open before year end—Dolce Italian possibly in September or October and American Cut most likely in late October to November or early December. Both are owned by LDV Hospitality, which opened Corso Coffee in Buckhead Atlanta last December.

In more Buckhead Atlanta news, the Spanx has moved 200-plus employees into its 88,000 square feet of headquarters space at Buckhead Atlanta, which brings a nice increase in potential diners for the development’s restaurants and shoppers for the retail stores. Spanx has an option to expand into the entire 112,000-square-feet of office space that was built in Phase I of the development.

Everyone passing on Peachtree Road can notice that the Dior store construction is coming along well. However, according to OliverMcMillan’s general manager for Buckhead Atlanta, Michael Diamantides, the store will not likely open until next February, even though OM will turn over the store to Dior in November.

Retail watchers are waiting to see if Peter Marino, the store designer Dior has been using most recently for its new openings, will be working on the Buckhead Atlanta store. The interior designs he has done for a recent flagship store in Seoul, South Korea, are stunning.

Diamantides also told BuckheadView that decisions have been made on the next phase of development at Buckhead Atlanta and planning for the project is underway. However he was not at liberty to say what that development would be and on which remaining parcel of land. He did say construction will start next year.
