Buckhead Atlanta Development Still On Track

Atlanta residents looking for the latest news on the Buckhead Atlanta project need only look up when they’re driving on Peachtree Road. The successor to the Streets of Buckhead project keeps moving as contractors for OliverMcMillan ready for a 2014 opening date. In October, the company released pictures of the glass rotunda being installed on top of the Hermes store, a French high-fashion design house. Buckhead Atlanta will be home to many upscale retailers. When finished, it will be 1.5 million square feet, including 300,000 square feet retail, restaurants and cafes, 125,000 square feet of office space and 370 “luxury high-rise residences.” The development will also contain the headquarters of the Atlanta-based company Spanx, maker of women’s undergarments. As the pace of construction has increased, so has the interference with local traffic in Buckhead, which is already challenged when it comes to transportation. Hunter Richardson, managing director of development at OliverMcMillan, said utilities work has led to some frustration among drivers in the area. “We are completely transforming six blocks of Buckhead Village with a destination that includes two 20-story towers, retail and office space,” Richardson said. “A project this large requires a lot of utility work, but we are actively working to minimize the impact of construction. We have hired off-duty police officers to help direct traffic, and we are integrating construction activity with the community. We are striving to be a good neighbor and minimize any disruptions to the day-to-day lives of Buckhead Atlanta’s neighbors, their employees and clients.” Richardson predicted that residents will be pleased with the final result. “The first restaurants and shops will open their doors in 2014 and many more will continue to open throughout 2014 and 2015,” he said. “We can’t wait to introduce this beautiful part of the neighborhood to Buckhead.”
